If anyone is going to Bonehill rocks

Hi all

Around easter time my little girl had a birthday party at bonehill rocks. Instead of party bags I had a stamp made up for each of the 6 kids. When I checked the boxes on Friday only one was where it was originally placed and completely intact (which we have now brought in). We found one further stamp and two further books in a differnt location to where they were originally placed and in poor condition. Looking around Bonehill rocks we found very few Boxes with stamps in them and evidence that they had been vandalised fairly recently (bits of paper from books blowing around the site etc.

We searched other possible places for our boxes around the rocks in case they had been re-sited but it is very overgrown at the moment. If anyone should stumble apon these boxes I would be exteamly grateful if they could take them in for me, in whatever condition they are in, message me through this site and I will pay postage for their return to me.

The stamps are all titled "Kerry's 7th Birthday", they have a picture and then another Childs name underneath. I am not overly confident but any finding any of this would make an upset 7 year old a bit more happy.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this post.

The letterboxes around Bonehill seem to be liable to vandalising! Last August we went up there wqith our young grandchildren 2 days running and the on the second day most of the stamps had been removed from boxes.
Sadly there are those who take delight in spoiling the pleasure of others. If we come across any of Kerry's stamps / boxes in this next week we will let you know.

Hi Terry

seems like you had a similar experience to ours the other day. I first visited Bonehill in february and it was an absolute picture: Some tors covered in snow some bathed in sunshine - the kind of views that don't need photo's as they just stick in your head. Found a lot of boxes in Feb too, these points made it seem like an ideal spot - not quite as touristy as Saddle Torr for example and very close to the car park as most of our party guests had never experienced the moor.

I was very dissapointed on friday to see some of the things you have also mentioned as well as dog mess not picked up etc.

I know that I am not a seasoned boxer like most on here but I do my upmost to show all of our countryside the respect that it deserves. Friday afternoon left me feeling a bit unhappy - although watching me and the kids fall into the river at dartmeet just after tea provided my wife with a laugh and made us all a bit happier - It is a truly magcal part of the world!

Hi, Think I found three of them in June at Bonehill, but like others have said I also found a number of boxes minus the stamps. Went there with my four year-old who loves both the boxes and the rocks, so although they appear to have been vandalised, please tell your daughter that finding her boxes made my little boy very happy.

Thanks for that Paul, will do. I'm not holding out much hope of getting the stamps or books back now. My 7 year old boss isn't as upset as she was, we've eventually managed to explain that it sometimes happens - although she does still beleive that the letterbox theif is a pantomime villain and all will be righted in time and he'll be thrown in the river or something!

Bonehill rocks isn't being targeted by the DLT that is down to the local kids from Widecombe because I am sure the DLT wouldn't bother with some of the stamps that are up there.
See my other post This is sad...
It is a shame that these mindless morons are determined to spoil the fun for others to enjoy but sadly there is very little that can be done about it as letterboxes are considered technically as litter.
Perhaps another site will be adopted in time - who knows?
