Returning to Letterboxing

Hi everyone

Between 31/05/1991 and 24/07/2007 I was an avid Boxer, and collected 7529 boxes. I became a teacher in 1999 and slowly had to spend less and less time on the moor, till in the end I stopped letterboxing.

Yesterday, together with Joyce, strolled out from Princetown to S Hessary and found a box. Now we have retired and have time again we are going to resume boxing.

As things will have moved on with time I have some questions this forum may be able to help with.

Previously I had a letterboxing database, provided by a boxer named Malcom Remnant, into which Tony Moore's updates could be loaded. (Though I seem to remember that Malcom may have done that for us) Does anything like this exist now?
Are there as many boxes out there as there used to be?
Are any areas total no goes for boxes?

Many thanks

Hi there, welcome back - just goes to show how addictive this hobby of ours is.

I can answer a couple of questions - yes Malcolm Remnants program is still going, though, if you have it, another boxer has taken over doing the updates for it. You will probably have to have it upgraded, but sure Colin can do that for you. Now though you have to pay for the official updates via Malcolm and Angela Alderidge before you can get the update 'translated' to go straight into the program. There is also another database for sale from Mike Holiday which also depends on you paying the pricely sum of 40p per monthly issue.

There are a lot more boxes on the moors now, mostly WOM (word of mouth) - this means to get onto these lists you will have to put some boxes out of your own for the 'swaps'

There are still a few no go areas but these are marked on the OS maps. Boxes no longer can be put out in various newtakes or on private landowners property. You will need to update your map as the range poles showing the extent of the firing ranges have been moved.

Any other questions you will find the answer to on this forum. Just click on 'search' at the top of the page and type in a question and the various threads will show up.

Hope this helps.

Well SS has summed up the whole situation quite well, only missing a couple of minor details - updates are now once a month and the Meet is in Lee Moor but check on the updates or here for confirmation.
