Best route to Duck's Pool?

Hi everyone!

Now that we've been to Cranmere Pool, I guess a trip to Duck's Pool would be a good idea!

We've looked at the 1:25000 map, but there does not seem to be an obvious sensible starting point and route. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Many thanks

J&J :)

Follow the Plym... or go from Princetown and go via Nuns Cross around Fox tor Mire and then round to Caters Beam and down the valley that way

Hi James and Jenny,

Glad to see preparations for this trip are already well under way!! I'd looked on the map to see where Duck's Pool was - and thought walking up by the Avon reservoir looked like a possible route - with a reasonable number of paths to follow. I will have to re look at my map and see where Nik's route is!!

Park by the Scout Hut at Nattor - 581 684 ish - follow the path above the scout hut around the top of Higher Hartor Tor and pick up the Plym Ford - walk to the head and then follow down.

When I did it, in 2005, I found it quite easily, although I took a bit of a wrong turn from the start, and ended up walking much further than I needed. I came across the cairn at Great Gnats' Head and kept on a diaganole (sorry can't spell) left until I found it. You get quite close before you spot it.

There's also a great walk not far away called the Polo Bears walk.

As Crafty Jo surmised, there's plenty of pathways that help.

We just got to "grimpen" fox tor mire and then went straight over the hill, you need a dry day though!!!! (and a rope)
