A stroll around hameldown tor

Went out yesterday, couldn't find any of these stamps - I might just be rubbish though!

You're not rubbish - don't be so hard on yourself. We all have slow days, but on these days, I just enjoy the walk and the beautiful scenery.

I often think I'd like to find 10 today, and then when I've found more than 10, think 20 might be a goal. However, as Nic says, it's not a race. We're out there for the fresh air and just having a delightful time.

So more than often now, I think, if I find 1 stamp that's bonus.

I was on Hameldown some weeks back - and started looking for one of these boxes at the end of the day. I found a box in 'sort' of the right place - but there was no indication in it to say it was part of this walk - my gut feeling was that it was, but unless someone else on here has actually found these boxes and knows what sort of stamps they have in them - we may never know!

I was out on Arms Tor today - planned rather too much and my day was cut short with the mist coming in - but had a successful box count from just the west and north sides of this tor - most boxes seemed to be on site - so may be worth while you making a visit! I shall tackle the east and south side another day.

Case in point with the unlabelled boxes - I had found part of the Ancient Civilizations set between Arms and Brat Tor some months back - but didn't realise until I found another two today on Arms Tor and they matched - these boxes have no identifcation in them at all.

Better Luck next time with your boxing. My worst day was a count of 1 and some terrible map reading which put me no where near where I wanted to be!!

Yeah, I found two on Hameldown, but I'm not sure if they are the right ones... Would be nice if people would write the number from the catalogue on the boxes so we know what we have found!

I went out to Barn's Hill and found 0 out of 4... great!

You NEED that sighting compass!

lol, yeah I know! It's my birthday soon, so might ask for it then... Too expensive to just go out and buy!

Where are you doing your Teacher Training? I did mine at Bulmershe in Reading many years ago. Taught for 16 years and then decided a total change was needed and opened my shop!

At West Exe Technology College in Exeter... start on the 10th... scary!

No of course not - you will stay out UNTIL you find it and there will be no going back to the car to sulk - no quitters in my classroom!

If it's any use I did this walk back in 2004 and found all but three; numbers 5, 6 and 12 seemed to be missing.

Looking through my muddled records I've found a few of my cards: First box has title on a board illustration. Box 7 is a load of geese, 9 is a groom with horse, 8 a shepherd and sheep,10 is three sheep, 11 a dog and puppy. Others currently lost in the heap but could dig them out if needed.

I enjoyed the walk and would be sorry if they've gone. I think they must have been identified inside the boxes, as I found others, yet managed to identify these as part of the set.

Hi did the Stroll on Hameldon walk in July 2003 - You are right title stamp was a board - No: 1 Uncle Tom Cobley and horse full of men - No: 2 2 men ploughing with horse - No: 3 Bulls Head - No: 4 Pigs Head 5: Horse head, 6missing? 7 = Geese, 8=Farmer with 2 sheep, 9= 3 sheep, 10= Horse & groom, 11 = Horse & dog - 12 = Jockey on horseback jumping fence. SS

sighting compass, i got given a military one, small and round, i had a look on "ebay" and they was going for a couple of quid, might be good getting one of those to get the hang of as we have been using one for 2 years and it is good but not as good as the one dizzy and a few other people have, but it works and mine was free. just a thought.
